Connected Distribution is bringing fingertip control to its installers and their customers, with the addition of the iPad-based DemoPad control system to its portfolio of whole-house audio and video products.
DemoPad brings installers easy to program comprehensive control of audio/visual equipment, lighting, heating, CCTV and access control. For end-users, its innovative Graphical User Interface presents an intuitive home automation universal remote, that can be used for something as simple as controlling a TV and Blu-ray player or a complete automated house.
Connected Distribution’s installer customers will be able to offer the benefits of full integration and control of the company’s product ranges, including: Russound distributed audio systems, Pulse-Eight HD matrix products, Yamaha AVRs, Cabasse Streamers and Parasound home theatre amplifiers. The existing database of over 100,000 control codes available from the DemoPad database makes compatibility with many products instantaneous. New products can be very easily added using the DemoDesigner software, which is PC based and does not require either an internet connection or the cloud to work – making on site programming easy, even if the house is not yet connected to the internet.
In keeping with the familiar user experience of iPads and iPhones, slider and gesture control is supported and the visual appearance of the GUI is entirely customisable, with use of any graphics files and layouts possible for a fully personalised experience. Or, the ready-made templates which cover most potential situations can be utilised, or indeed customised.
DemoPad does not limit the number of zones, devices or pages within the GUI, enabling the largest and most complex of house or commercial installations to be controlled using exactly the same programming skills as required to operate a single TV. The conditional logic programming can work with time of the day and day-of-the-week-based actions, enabling, for example, lighting to be controlled, curtains to be closed, and heating to be adjusted while the home owner is away.
DemoPad on an iPad controls IP controllable devices with no additional hardware required. To extend the power of the system, the company’s hardware products expand the options to IR, RS232, low voltage relays and volt-free digital inputs. The CENTRO 8 is a powerful IP based automation processor that brings advanced automation capabilities to the masses, with an affordable control processor, state of the art embedded software and 16 individually addressable infra-red output ports, four bi-directional RS232 ports, four low voltage contact closure relay outputs and eight volt-free digital inputs (for connecting PIRs etc.).
Its smaller brother, the CENTRO 8M, is an extremely cost-effective, small form factor, automation and control processor. It features three IR outputs, one IR trigger input and one bi-directional RS232 port. Partnering the 8M is the CENTRO CM IP control gateway, which extends the ports to four more IR, another RS232, four high voltage relay closures and eight volt-free inputs. For the majority of domestic installations, the use of the CENTRO 8M with the CENTRO CM provides more than ample connectivity and control options.
Much larger installations benefit from use of the CENTRO C, a multi-port control gateway, adding another 16 IR ports, six RS232, 12 LV relay closure contacts and 16 volt-free digital inputs.
Introducing DemoPad to Connected Distribution’s customers, Mike Bonnette, technical director, says: “We were blown away by the almost limitless capabilities of DemoPad when it was demonstrated to us and felt we just had to offer this to our customers. Now they can provide a really simple to use and easy to program solution that competes with the most advanced (and expensive) control systems for a fraction of the price and without the programming headaches that often accompany such products.” He adds, “DemoPad is a ‘must-have’ benefit for our customers and for their end-users, tying together all the devices in the install and presenting a beautifully simple control interface. We know it’s going to bring a huge advantage for our installers and their customers are going to love it.”
