The format war is on and though HD DVD is already proving big business, another heavyweight has sided with the Blu-ray camp. This particular industry colossus, Pioneer, is ready to launch its BDP-LX70, a home networked media player, designed to draw the best from high definition images. It will do this by playing audio and video exactly as the film-makers intended: at 1080p and 24Hz. As this is the same speed at which the film was shot, stored, mastered and screened at the cinema, the images will never have appeared smoother. Everything about this player exudes quality, whether it is used to playback BDs or multi-media files stored on a computer. It comes dressed in Pioneer’s characteristic gloss black and will be available from June.
