Canadian innovator Pixelgen Design Inc. has laucnhed the PXLGLASS™ interconnect solution, capable of delivering full-bandwidth 18Gbps up to 50m.
PXLGLASS is the industry’s first fibre-based long reach THX® Certified 4K Interconnect solution, capable of boosting full-bandwidth 4K reach capabilities up to 50m. This long-range full bandwidth interconnect solution can deliver 100% uncompressed 4K signals and the full feature-set of HDMI protocol.
Starting at $449 MSRP, PXLGLASS uses a unique copper/fibre hybrid cable implementation, using optical fibres to carry high-speed TMDS signals while exchanging critical low-speed communication signals such as HDCP 2.2 and CEC 2.0 over copper-based wires. This hybrid cabling approach to long-reach connectivity guarantees the highest standard of robustness, reliability and interoperability.
“With PXLGLASS™ we set out to design a 20m+ long reach solution that could adhere to the Pixelgen mantra: Transport the Real Uncompressed Experience (or T.R.U.E.),” said Jack MacDougall, Pixelgen CEO and co-founder. “Simply put, regardless of the application’s length requirement, PXLGLASS is aimed to work as reliably as a 1m cable would.”
With a heavy focus on equipment interoperability and reliability, the THX Certification process guarantees all 4K formats are delivered uncompressed alongside the total support of the HDMI protocol feature-set.
“THX is truly excited about what PXLGLASS enables for larger or expansive home theatre space instalments,” said Peter Vasay, SVP of Technology Operations, THX. “As THX works to perfect the performance class of audio and video products throughout an array of room sizes, Pixelgen is at the forefront of delivering 4K content across a significant distance, with absolutely zero effect on the picture and sound quality.”
In addition to PXLGLASS, Pixelgen also offers the PXLDRIVE™ Max 4K Interconnect System, a complete end-to-end mid-range copper-based cable bundle solution for 10m and 15m applications, for $359 and $399 MSRP.
PXLGLASS™ will begin shipping May 4th, 2018. Pre-orders available now.
