In response to customer demand, Amina Technologies has announced a new member of its popular Edge Series of Invisible Loudspeakers. Originally launched at ISE in 2017, the existing Edge7 and Edge5 products have proved popular in both commercial and residential applications. The Edge3 has a slightly smaller form factor (300mm by 400mm) and a more aggressive price position with an RRP of £500 ex VAT, making it perfect for medium power commercial applications such as retails and hotel.
Additionally, particularly where budget maybe an issue, the Edge3 will allow an invisible multi-room audio solution in the home to be extended into rooms where such a discreet solution may not previously have been considered an option.
The Edge 3 is a highly efficient speaker with a sensitivity of 86dB 1m/2.83Vrms, a power handling of 30W cont., 60W peak giving max SPL of 101dB. This specification has allowed Amina to create a new price point for a high performance, invisible speaker. Like all Amina speakers, the sound is dispersed hemi-spherically from the wall or ceiling right across the frequency range of 90Hz-24KHz. The dispersion characteristics have an often overlooked, additional advantage, of requiring significantly fewer (2-4X) speakers to create an even SPL in a large space, which is particularly applicable in retail applications. The Edge3 is also available in 70/100V line versions with a high quality toroidal wound transformer built into the speaker.
The Edge Series was originally developed for dry lined applications and the perimeter is shaped and tapered to allow joint tape and filler to be used in the same way as for drywall gypsum. However, due to the characteristics of the new panel material Amina uses for the Edge Series, providing both significantly improved efficiency and bass performance, the Edge series has proved popular as a retrofit option in fully plastered applications.
The key element in developing any diffuse source, wide frequency range flat panel loudspeaker is dominated by the choice of material used in the active flat panel surface of the loudspeakers. This forms the musical sound board at the heart of an Amina speaker and is critical in determining its efficiency and the audio performance. The panel uses a high performance glass filled core making it stiff, light and damped which is perfect for high fidelity sound production. Amina’s MD Richard Newlove commented “the material used on the Edge Series has excellent fire retardant, low smoke and low fume properties which is becoming an increasingly important requirement within the built environment.”
The Edge3 is available to order immediately.
