Retailers may not be too surprised to hear that at just over 250,000 units, the market remained somewhat flat compared to 2006 in terms of volume sales.
Also of note is the firm's conclusion that significant price erosion across the board resulted in a 20% reduction of overall market value from the previous year to around £180-million.
Other statistics highlighted by the firm indicate that while AV Specialists remained the dominant channel for projector sales, IT mail order stores showed signs of gaining ground with 24% of total sales, up from 18% in 2006. The portion of HD-ready projectors sold meanwhile came to 7%, contrasting with the fact that HD-ready televisions accounted for 75% of all sets sold last year.
Commenting on these figures, GfK Senior Account Manager Sandra Bayly remarked that, “I expect the Projector market to grow sales by around 10% in 2008 as the demand of enhanced features increases further. Prices continue to decline, so this will be a supporting mechanism in stabilising the market value, as well as offering improved performance in the product.”
