Published: Friday, April 09, 2010
With its promise of global product launches, important updates on existing technologies, major brands and a packed programme of seminars, workshops and conference sessions, the CEDIA Home Technology Event looks set to be the industry event of the year for the UK custom installation sector.
But how and why has the Expo we know and love changed to meet the needs of the industry, and what will be on show for visitors to enjoy? Who better to ask than those behind it and those that will be occupying the show floor...
the organisers
“In keeping with the need to adapt any product offering so that it better suits the current environment, the CEDIA Home Technology Event is adapting to better serve the needs of the Custom Installation industry,” says Robert Hallam, CEDIA Chair, Region 1. “The event will build on the success of the Conference theme from 2009 with new Conferences for architects, interior designers and electrical contractors in an effort to extend CEDIA's reach and awareness to related professional service companies. The show continues to enjoy the support of manufacturers such as Crestron, JVC, Kaleidescape, NuVo, Panasonic, Philips, Sonos and Speakercraft, with major distributors AWE Europe, BMB Electronics, CSE and Habitech all booking sizeable stands, reinforcing the importance of the UK market for Custom Installation solutions. There’s a raft of exciting new product launches lined up for the event – and, with lots of newly updated training courses taking place at the show, the CEDIA Home Technology Event will be a show that you just can’t afford to miss.”
the exhibitors
As you may already know, Crestron is returning to the ExCeL in 2010. “We are delighted to be at the Home Technology Event this year,” Crestron’s Petra van Meeuwen commented. “We will be showing new additions to our hugely popular DigitalMedia system and lighting control solutions, but the main focus for the event will be on the new Prodigy range. This simple and affordable solution gives our dealers the opportunity to expand their market to provide home control for every lifestyle and budget.”
“The buzz in the lighting world is all about LEDs,” Petra added. “We have the products and technology to provide individual control for LED light loads, and our systems can work with any LED transformer on the market. We are also expecting to have the first UK showing of a number of innovations, including wireless solutions that are ideal for the retrofit market and news on our extended offering in keypads and faceplates. Not only that, but we will be running manufacturer training as well as revealing the winners in our hotly-contested annual Integration Awards – showcasing the very best installations of Crestron in the residential market. Also we have a number of solutions that are proving extremely popular with architects and interior designers, and the special conferences that CEDIA is hosting at the event give us the opportunity for dialogue with this important group. It is all set to be a busy few days in London!”
Meanwhile, Artcoustic will showcase a world first at the event. “The new entry-level and flagship points of our range make their début at the show,” Paul Cummin from Artcoustic UK told us. “It’s a global launch for the Spitfire 4-2-1 which will be there for all to see. This is huge news for Artcoustic and its dealers across the UK.”
“The CEDIA Home Technology Event gives us a great opportunity to showcase exciting new and existing products to both existing and new customers and we are delighted to be attending once again,” offered Ian Severs from CSE Custom. The company will be showing Speakercraft's Nirv – a next-generation AV distribution and control system delivering whole-house HD video, audio, intercom, data and control over a single CAT5 cable – for the first time in the UK.
Larry Sadoo, New Business Development Manager – Marketing at JVC, is similarly optimistic: “The CEDIA Home Technology Event offers JVC a great opportunity,” he said. “Our line-up of dedicated custom install Full HD monitors and True Black HD projectors will be on-show, with on-going demonstrations in a blacked out cinema room, so anyone who hasn't had the chance to preview these amazing products will be able to see for themselves.”
For many, exhibiting at the Home Technology Event was a no-brainer. “NuVo enjoyed an exceptional CEDIA show last year,” commented David Rodarte, the company's President and Chief Operating Officer. “We will again be supporting Habitech, our exclusive UK distributor, at the event and are looking forward to another terrific three days. The big story will be the European launch of our ground-breaking Renovia system at the event. Since Renovia uses the existing electrical wiring in a home as the infrastructure to deliver audio and metadata from multiple sources to multiple rooms, it can dramatically grow the whole-home audio market for CI dealers. Interest in this game-changing technology is bound to be high.”
And it's a similar story for Ivory Egg: "On the back of a very successful 2009 show, Gira with support of Ivory Egg is looking forward to the 2010 CEDIA Home Technology Event,” explains Scott Burgess, Director, Ivory Egg. “This year Gira will be showcasing the continued development of the Gira Interface, a professionally-designed touch-panel interface and control system for KNX- and IP-controllable devices. Among the highlights will be live energy metering via KNX with simple and easy to understand visualisation for end users. Gira and KNX offers great design, energy efficient lighting, heating and whole-home control all on a single universal protocol."
Finally, AWE Europe will once again be out in force. MD, Stuart Tickle, has invited all the firm's customers to join the AWE 75th Anniversary drinks receptions at this year’s event. “We’re also celebrating with some fantastic new products, including the first-ever showing of our very own Kinetik Labs brand of infrared receiver kits and CI speakers,” he added. “We’ll be showcasing the latest screens including 3D technology from Panasonic and others, plus fantastic new AV receivers and players from Arcam, Pioneer and Onkyo. Among the other highlights will be a special European preview of new products from Pronto including the in-wall touch-panel and the CRX-9800 system controller. There will be the first public viewing of the DF Solutions Sonix media server and new Blu-ray-upgraded Base. We’ll have lots of training also going on at the event, and installers can also find out how they can get extra points towards the big AWE 75th birthday event of the year – the AWE Motorsport Sensation. We can’t wait for the show to begin – it’s going to be a truly special occasion!”
The CEDIA Home Technology Event will take place June 14th–17th 2010 (training: 14th–17th, exhibition 15th–17th) at the ICC London ExCeL. For more information, head to www.cedia-expo.com.
