SOUND & VISION ENJOYS NORTHERN RENAISSANCE

Over the weekend of October 17th–18th, the SVI team joined many of the audio-visual industry's biggest names at the revamped and re-branded Sound & Vision Manchester show.
In no small part thanks to the attentions of Audio-T, organisers of the Bristol Sound & Vision show, the Renaissance Hotel-based event appears to have been a rip-roaring success – visitor numbers were up by 23% (a figure I can well believe having walked round the packed corridors on the Saturday) and attending companies up by 20%, with brands on show up by an amazing 70% and overall sales up by 44%. As a result, the organisers are already reporting solid initial bookings for the 2010 event, which will take place 16th–17th October at the same venue.
Taking into account the trying financial conditions, the sight of visitors waiting for the doors to be opened on Saturday morning (the lines reportedly lasted over an hour on the opening day) must have been both encouraging and a relief to those seeking to bolster the reputation of what is the UK's second biggest show. The distraction of a Manchester Utd home fixture clearly didn't keep the AV-buying public away! Whilst not as busy as the Saturday, Sunday at the show nevertheless saw a rise in attendance and a steady flow of visitors through the venue's corridors and rooms.
Most pleasing for those that ferried their wares to Manchester and spent two days on their feet extolling their benefits was the fact that visitors were spending. Accessory sales, in particular, proved especially strong, though consumers also shelled out for some significant pieces of AV kit over the weekend too. 'Best-selling brand' honours went to Pioneer, which – despite the winding down of the KURO TV range – still has much to offer the AV consumer.
Needless to say, there were plenty of exciting products to see – as always, we'll bring you the latest in SVI.
Exhibitors' thoughts:

This was by far our best show in UK so far. Our room was crowded most of the time and we got excellent feedback on our equipment and the sound quality.
Rob Noble at Sonos
I never expected to see any dealers at Manchester but I've just seen two and done a load of business!
John Nelson at Ripcaster
Fantastic show for us, lots of visitors, very knowledgeable and a good level of interest.

Very good show, steady stream of visitors. Music lovers and interested in buying. No time wasters.
