The Aftermath

Now that the Home Technology Event is over and we’ve all settled back into our normal lives our industry has been left with a lot to think about. The cloistered environment of the London ExCeL and its surrounding pubs and hotels made an objective assessment of the proceedings impossible at the time and it is only now that we can gain a perspective on the show and really assess how we as individuals and the industry as a whole felt about the whole event.

There was no ignoring the furtive mumblings and murmurs that the show isn’t what it used to be, but if I may opine, there is a simple reason for that: the industry, and to a greater degree the economy, isn’t what it used to be. Companies have fallen by the wayside, belts have been tightened and spending has reduced. Our industry does not exist in a vacuum and what affects everyone else will inevitably affect us.

If that consideration is taken into account I feel it would fair to suggest that the show was a success. Yes it was smaller than before and yes there were fewer companies in attendance compared to the industry’s pomp but these are not the heydays of the past and the Home Technology Event is a show within an industry that is re-finding its feet following a crisis which was much bigger than us.

A full review of the Home Technology Event can be found in the latest issue of SVI magazine, which if you haven’t yet subscribed to you can do by clicking that mouse of yours right here.
