AV distribution and switching specialist Smart-e is offering an upgrade to SmartIP – its control software, first launched back in July, that affords full IP and browser control for configuration and direct control of Smart-e systems.
Said upgrade includes: Integrated Display Management – providing storage of command codes for display control; Sub-divided Zones – making control of large systems much easier; and a ‘Set all/Select destinations to specific source’ option, which reduces operator time. Smart-e has also improved the 'look' of the system to make it easier to view and use.

Specifically, the upgrade integrates matrix control with display management. RS-232 serial command strings can be stored within SmartIP, and then used to control any type of display device including LCDs, plasmas and projectors – a feature that simplifies the control of large multi-format video systems together with scheduled power management control.

Stored command codes can also be associated with particular inputs, identifying them as specific video types e.g. RGBHV, YPrPb and Y/C etc. As such, when a particular input is selected – either through the IP connection or via Infrared – the command code is automatically transmitted to the display, forcing it to that particular video type. Using the included 'scheduler' function, command codes can be sent on a timed basis to the displays thereby providing timed power cycling, reducing power consumption and improving display life time.

The system also allows one command string to be conveyed to a group of display devices at the flick of a switch, doing-away with the time-consuming task of individual selection. Similarly, selections can be made on the screen using check boxes, allowing selected displays to receive the same content without running through the entire list of outputs.
