In news that reveals the true power of music SVI found out about a working relationship between Roberts Radio and St Guy's Hospital. As part of a new initiative to help improve the clinical condition and lower anxiety levels of patients Roberts Radio have provided 13 Pillow Talk speakers and SOUND 37 digital clock radios to the critical care unit at St Guy's. The Pillow Talk speakers are linked to individual SOUND 37 digital clock radios that come with CD players, allowing each patient to listen to different music from a selection of CDs without disturbing patients or visitors around them.
Christina Farrow, Deputy Sister Critical Care and one of the nurses running the programme commented: “Quite a number of studies indicate that listening to music improves the wellbeing of seriously ill patients and we're already seeing this in the patients we have played music to so far.” Further adding that: “We are extremely grateful to Roberts for donating these radios and we have already seen some great results. We are trialling the programme for six months and if it proves popular with patients and staff, we will look at extending it to 30 critical care beds at St Thomas.”
Of their altruistic work Leslie Burrage, Chief Executive of Roberts Radio, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this new initiative and hope that our radios will really help to benefit the patients in Guy’s Hospital’s critical care.” Which seems commendable to us.
