Onkyo are feeling app-y

As smartphones become more prevalent companies in the AV industry are looking at ways to exploit the technology to benefit of their customers. Although we see a whole slew of iOS apps on a daily basis however the Android market is still marked by a distinct paucity of AV-related apps. Looking to redress this dearth is Onkyo with its new Android app which will allow owners to stream audio wirelessly from an Android-based device to their Onkyo A/V or Hi-Fi system, as well as providing a wide range of remote control functions.

Available for free through the Android market the app will operate over a wireless local network, allowing Onkyo owners to play music stored on an Android device through a networked Onkyo audio system. Users can browse networked content without needing to view or operate onscreen menus on a connected TV display. Instead, they can use the touch-screen GUI on their Android device to navigate menus and control a variety of functions, such as selecting the input source or adjusting the volume and tone. Furthermore, users can control the output in individual zones in a multi-room distributed audio set-up. Compatible with all of Onkyo’s 2011 range of network A/V receivers, as well as with the new TX-8050 stereo network receiver, the new app will surely make any Android-based smartphone that little bit smarter.
