Sony unveils new Google TV-enabled flatscreens and Blu-ray player
Comprising four full-HD LCD TVs and a Blu-ray player, each Sony Internet TV device is equipped with an Intel Atom processor, onboard Wi-Fi and comes with Google’s Android operating system and Chrome browser preinstalled. Users with sufficiently fast broadband connections (2.5Mbps or higher) will thus be able to quickly alternate between watching broadcast television and browsing various types of online content (standard webpages, social networking feeds and so forth) or even do both simultaneously via the inclusion of a Dual View feature.
The devices will ship with a selection of preloaded applications, including YouTube, Twitter and Napster, together with frontends for Sony’s own Qriocity streaming video service and US-only content services Pandora and Netflix; the ability to install additional applications from the Android Market is due to be added in early 2011.
In terms of sizes and prices, the TV line up consists of the edge LED backlit, 46-inch NSX-46GT1 ($1399.99), 40-inch NSX-40GT1 ($999.99), 32-inch NSX-32GT1 ($799.99) and the CCFL backlit, 24-inch NSX-24GT1 ($599.99). Each model sports four HDMI connectors and four USB ports, and comes supplied with an RF remote that incorporates both a QWERTY keypad and an optical trackpad.
For users who wish to make use of Sony’s ‘Internet TV powered by Google’ service offering with their existing HDTV sets, the NSZ-GT1 Blu-ray player ($399.99) offers the same connected features, USB array and accompanying remote. UK pricing and availability for the range is yet to be confirmed.
