New from Tannoy are two compact 5.1 speaker systems pitched at those who prefer their multi-channel home theatre set-ups to be relatively bulk-free.
The HTS 101 is designed for use in smaller spaces, and comprises four satellite speakers, one centre unit and an active subwoofer. The satellites and centre channel are voice matched to accentuate dialogue signals, with the 100W HTS Sub packing a downward-firing 8-inch long-throw driver and a pair of volume and crossover frequency controls. For larger rooms meanwhile there’s the more sizeable HTS 102, which consists of two front L/R towers, two rear satellites, a centre channel and the same accompanying sub.
Both systems employ real wood cabinets and Tannoy’s own titanium-domed, neodymium-driven ‘WideBand’ tweeters, capable of a frequency response in excess of 40KHz. Other features include the use of 3-inch paper cone mid/bass drivers – two of which can be found in the HTS centre – and a voguish gloss black finish.
In terms of pricing, the HTS 101 and 201 retail for £549.90 and £779.90 respectively. Also available are two supplementary speaker packages for increasing the number of channels - the £229.90 HTS 3.0 (two satellites, one centre) and £349.90 HTS 5.0 (four satellites, one centre). Extra tower speakers can furthermore be purchased for £349.90 per pair and additional HTS Sub units for £249.90 each.
