Salamander Designs might not be a name you're familiar with currently, but that's all set to change. The leading brand of AV furniture in the US, Salamader has appointed Atacama Audio as its sole distributor in Europe, resulting in the arrival of some particularly impressive options in the UK. On offer is furniture from Salamander's Madrid and Chameleon collections, both of which comprise a number of finish/style options – amongst them the pictured Chameleon Berlin, which is proving particularly popular.
Taking the Chameleon Berlin as our example, this is AV furniture packed with unique and innovative features. Beneath the attractive solid wood (in the case of Berlin, an exotic dark Wenge) panelling, soft close doors and sleek black glass top, each cabinet benefits from a robust, dual function aluminium frame. Not only will this safely support a home cinema's worth of AV components, it incorporates venting and, as part of extended rear panelling, an active cooling system with remote thermostat. Shelving, which is infinitely adjustable thanks to an ingenious in-frame system, is also vented, ensuring excess heat is dispensed with before it can create problems.
Other features include an IR repeater system to allow the use of remote controls even when the cabinet doors are closed, media storage trays with space to house 111 CDs or 75 DVDs, and a universal flat-panel TV mount – height adjustable, capable of supporting screens up to 61-inches and available with optional brackets to hold front channel speakers in the optimum listening position.
