Wireless specialist, Parrot, has taken a further step into the world of AV with the launch of its 75cm iPod/iPhone-compatible Zikmu – a 'Parrot by Philipe Starck' wireless loudspeaker set. Boasting a sleek, black lacquer finish and a stylish, curvaceous form, each pair will accommodate Apple's aforementioned gadgets via a docking station situated on one of the columns. This provides convenient access to the audio stored within and recharges the device. A smart remote control is included to ensure a user doesn't even have to get up from the sofa.
PC, Mac and mobile-based audio libraries can also be played via a combination of the Zikmu's built-in Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth stereo (A2DP) wireless streaming technology. Bluetooth also enables the two speakers in each set to communicate with each other, allowing a user to position the speakers anywhere within a room.
Zikmu's sound-reproducing capabilities are based upon NXT flat speaker technology – hence its slender profile – and Parrot’s many years of experience in DSP. Its 3-channel Class D digital amplifier, capable of generating 100W, reportedly results in precise room-filling audio, whilst an 'acoustic hollow' has also been integrated into the lower part of the speakers to give bass frequencies the maximum depth.
Available at premium retailers including Conran, Harrods and Selfridges and specialist AV suppliers including Robert Taussig, Parrot's Zikmu retails at £1000.
