Panasonic has brought new versions of its compact dome security IP cameras to market. The BB-HCM701 and BB-HCM705 benefit from a tamper-proof polycarbonate shell and employ H.264 compression (reduces data volume by 30% compared to MPEG4) to optimise data network traffic without compromising image quality. An impressive 60% smaller than their predecessors, the cameras can be flush-mounted directly onto a ceiling, making them a particularly discreet solution.
Both models are capable of detecting motion, sound and shock; users are alerted to disturbances falling into any of these categories via a PC or mobile phone. Alternatively, the images the cameras record can be saved to built-in memory or on an optional SD card (up to 32GB).
Further features include Panasonic's UniPhier advanced video processing chipset, which facilitates crisp, natural colours and more efficient streaming, SSL support for secure Internet communication and Power over Ethernet functionality. The 1.3-megapixel BB-HCM705 will be available from December, with the VGA BB-HCM701 due for release in January.
