Onkyo have taken the wraps off three home cinema receivers with comprehensive network audio streaming facilities and HDMI 1.4a support to the tune of six inputs each. The THX Select2 Plus-certified TX-NR708, TX-NR808 and TX-NR1008 all feature rear-mounted Ethernet ports for connection to a PC or network router and are compatible with an impressive array of audio file types, including FLAC, WMA, WMA Lossless, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AAC and LPCM. They will also connect to several streaming audio services – music recommendation engine LastFM, internet radio station aggregator vTuner and on-demand music subscription service Napster.
Other features common to all three include Windows 7 compatibility and DLNA 1.5 certification, iPhone/iPod playback with onscreen album art via a front-mounted USB port, support for Dolby Pro LogicIIz and Audyssey DSX in addition to the standard HD audio codecs and Audyssey MultEQ room correction technology.
In terms of differences, the 7.2-channel TX-NR708 and TX-NR808 are primarily distinguished by the latter’s inclusion of a bi-directional, programmable remote. As well as boasting 9.2-channels, other additions to the TX-NR1008 include an extra HDMI output, advanced ISF video calibration and dual 192kHz/24-bit Burr Brown DACs, compared to the single DACs used by its siblings.
The TX-NR708 and TX-NR808 will be priced at £800 and £1000 respectively upon their release in the latter half of June. The TX-NR1008 is due for release at the end of July, priced at £1300.
