Targeting budget-conscious enthusiasts and newcomers to the world of Hi-Fi is a new hardware pairing from Marantz – the CD5004 CD-player and PM5004 integrated stereo amplifier.
Retailing for £219.90, the CD5004 comes contained within an all-metal, acoustically damped chassis and makes use of a 24-bit/192kHz Cirrus Logic DAC capable of delta-sigma digital to analogue conversion. There’s media support for CDR, CD-RW and MP3/WMA data discs, co-axial and optical digital outs and several other quasi- high-end touches throughout, including gold-plated contacts and an ‘Audio EX’ mode that deactivates the display, pitch control and digital output so that the focus is ‘EX’clusively on its analogue performance.
The £249.90 PM5004 is meanwhile rated (conservatively, note Marantz) at 2 x 55W and offers five line inputs, two sets of speaker terminals and a moving magnet phono stage. Echoes of Marantz’ more premium models can be found in its current feedback architecture (as opposed to the voltage feedback design commonly found at this price level) which should make for faster and more accurate signal handling and the short signal paths, acoustic damping and 6kg chassis used in its design.
Both components are available now in a choice of black or combined silver and gold finishes.
