Kaleidescape is looking to bring the fabled ‘experience’ offered by its high-end media server solutions to broader range of users – and families in particular – with the new Cinema One, which combines 1080p upscaled DVD/CD playback, importing, storage and server facilities in one integrated device.
The unit comes equipped with four 500GB disk cartridges configured in the company’s proprietary RAID-K formation (enough to securely store approximately 225 DVDs) and replicates virtually all the interface features that Kaleidescape dealers and users will be familiar with. These include the system’s image-rich GUI, access to the company’s proprietary Movie/Music Guide Service for metadata lookups and full compatibility with the client players and server hardware making up the rest of the Kaleidescape ecosystem, should users require additional storage or expand the system to cover more zones.
The Cinema One will support one combined movie/music zone and two independent analogue audio zones, plus simultaneous importing from up to four connected devices. The rear plays to a series of HDMI, component, composite and S-video ports, a choice of digital coaxial/optical and analogue audio outputs and a 1000BaseT Ethernet connector. On the control side, the device can be operated via RS-232 signals and comes supplied with both the standard Kaleidescape IR remote and the recently introduced ‘Child Remote’ – a simplified IR controller with oversized buttons that immediately switches the Kaleidescape UI to pre-filtered, child-friendly version as soon as it’s used.
The Kaleidescape Cinema One is available now at an MSRP of £4195.
