Those in search of an affordable surround sound speaker package may wish to investigate the BPT system from Greek manufacturer Crystal Acoustics. Composed of a centre channel, a THX Select-certified subwoofer, four slimline tower speakers measuring 105cm in height and a 120W amplifier, the system is finished in high-gloss piano black.
The towers employ a bipolar, wired in phase driver configuration, comprising a pair of differently angled 7.5cm mid/bass drivers to more closely emulate the surround effect found in cinemas, with higher range frequencies handled by 2.5cm neodymium tweeter.
The THX-10SUBT subwoofer meanwhile offers an in-room frequency response of 19Hz to 350Hz from its 10-inch cone, contains a built-in 120W amplifier and features an automatic standby function if no signals are detected after 10-minutes. As a THX Select-certified product, it’s best suited for use in medium-sized rooms up to 2000 cubic feet in size at a 10 to 12-foot viewing distance from the screen.
