Crestron has added two new HDMI extender kits to its DigitalMedia 8G family, which promise to transport uncompressed AV content – including 3D signals – up to 100m over a single run of shielded twisted pair (STP) cabling.
The HD-EXT1-C and HD-EXT2-C kits comprise a transmitter (which can be mounted in a single-gang box, rackmounted or fixed to flat surfaces) and a small receiver unit intended for concealed mounting near target displays. Both will carry resolutions of up to 1080p originating from HDMI, DVI and DisplayPort sources (the latter two with the aid of appropriate adaptors), are fully HDCP-compliant and able to support 7.1 channel lossless HD Audio.
The HD-EXT1-C will additionally carry bi-directional RS-232 signals and includes a universal IR repeater. The HD-EXT2-C meanwhile features a second output that can be used to carry a separate analogue audio signal via a single STP or UTP (unshielded twisted pair, eg Cat5e) cable. Both kits will be available as of February.
