First unveiled at last month’s International CES, Cambridge Audio’s latest flagship Blu-ray player looks to combine the high-spec audio and multi-format smarts of its previous 650BD model with full 3D support.
As well as conventional and 3D Blu-ray discs, the 751BD will also make short work of DVDs, DVD-A and SACD audio discs and even support the relatively obscure HDCD (High Definition Compatible Digital) audio standard. It also comes equipped with not one, but two HDMI 1.4 ports for outputting visuals to two display simultaneously, or to supply 3D signals to a compatible display while bitstreaming accompanying TrueHD/DTS-HD soundtracks to older AV receivers.
Other features include a Marvell QDEO video scaler integrated into the primary output to assist with DVD upscaling duties, five Wolfson WM8740 24-bit/192kHz DACs and 192kHz upsampling to make the most of its DVD-A/SACD modes. Users also get a choice of a digital filters – linear phase, minimum phase and steep filter – two USB ports and a SATA interface for connecting external storage devices containing audio and/or video files. An 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi dongle is supplied in the package, the use of which is presently limited to enabling access to BD-Live content. Available in black or silver, the 751BD is due for release in spring with an expected RRP of £799.95.
